Inspiration NETS-T 4

The Inspiration 9. satisfied NETS-T 3 and five because I put all the NETS-T three together and reflected what we all as a class have done. Additionally, NETS-T five underlines the importance to exhibit leadership and demonstrate a vision of technology, and build the technology skills of others. All the examples can be visually seen in this post.

Journal 7: My Personal Learning Network NETS -T 5

In journal 7 we had the opportunity of meeting educators through Twitter. I met with educators from Connecticut and New Jersey and many more people. I also added educators to my delicious account. Then I wrote a reflection of who I added and why I added them. I described the great experience I had in the chat meeting as well. It was very interesting.



My personal learning network is combined with a twitter, delicious, and Educator’s account. These accounts convey an informative world of educators who share their knowledge. When educator share their knowledge it is easier for teachers to teach, and for students to learn and collaborate with other students as well. As a teacher my PLN will help me to know different ways to help my students study and learn in a classroom environment. Through the network I will be able to learn from teachers, students, and my community.

In my Twitter account, I added other people to my network in order to learn from them. The people who I added were people who are dedicated to the world of education. The sections that I searched were education and landed on elemchat. The topic that was discussed was what are your favorite tech tools for the classroom. Topic: What are your favorite tech tools for the classroom.Some of the tools mentioned were the DreamBox , dashboard, but internet access is needed. A mom mentioned that her daughter plays at home 15 minutes a day, and at school twice a week in the lab. Other tools mentioned were, Skype and Mixbooks, www.sitepal.com for voice, and voki. Through the Twitter chat I also realized how popular it is to teachi with Macs I also learned that Diigo.com is similar to delicious.com

For my Delicious account one of the people who I elected was Jedipooh. Jedipoo, in addition to be very involved with his delicious account he is into computers which is great for me! I need to stay in the technology side! Things are moving fast and I need to keep up. He will be a good search engine for me regards technology. The other people who I chose were also very involved in tagging in the education such as new ways to teach students to listen and much more.

In the Educator’s website I found a great contributor named John Burrell. John seems like a very dedicated educator who keeps up with the education updates as far as teaching. On October 31, John posted a blog called Flip-Thinking. The title seemed very interesting to me and what I found out from the post was even more interesting. The direct url to his blog is http://edupln.com/profile/JohnBurrell. I recommend other students and educators to read his postings because as I mentioned he is a dedicated person to his career. The way that John explained how the Flip-Thinking works in his classroom. Teaching our kids first in class and reiterating the information with homework or an activity to take home is a great way to keep the students warm on the subject. The best way to make sure that your students learned the information is by asking them a few questions after the homework is done.

Journal 6 Interview-Change Agent, NETS-T 2& 5

Will Richardson is an example to follow. Will, as an educator is googleable, but he would like more teachers and professors to become as well. Richardson’s mentality of a world involved in technology is currently on it’s highest I believe, but there is much more to be done. I agree with him in that “there's no one teaching them about the nuances involved in creating a positive online footprint.” Students now a day are so involved in myspace and other networks that are not really helping themselves in their education. Students need to get involved by their teachers, and supported by their parents to try to novice activities in their computer.

Why do we blog?

Richardson is a critical thinker. Like he says, educators and other blog users should ask ourselves why we use a blog. The question correlates on the fact that we use it, but many of us don’t know why we use it. The purpose of a blog is to collaborate and communicate with other bloggers around the world. For example, in blogspot.com, the one I use is great because I get to collaborate and share information with other students in my class. In my education class we get to do activities in the web and then we get to reflect on them on our blog. As one of our assignments, we also have to comment on our classmates which is a great way to help our classmates acknowledge their great work. Richardson also brings an important point to his interview which is that we have wasted enough time trying to learn how to improve our computer skills and it’s time to finally think why is the reason we are trying to learn this ‘stuff.’ The key points are collaboration and communication!

What is going to take for Educational Institutions really get up and start engaging in their student’s education?

In order for students to engage in their own education, educators need to engage first in their profession. I believe that is one of the issues missing from educators. I believe the best way to engage students in their education are by introducing them to novice activities in where their educational interest will awaken. Engaging students in their education reminds me of NETS –T five because if we teach our students the importance of learning technology. But also passing it on to others and the most important is remembering it for the rest of your life because it will help you in professional jobs. Richardson seems like a teacher who engages really well with his students which will help his students have a better technology life!

In the Prezi assignment I did a little research be able to give data information. I had to download the software to be able to use it. It was fun zooming and learning the whole process.

Journal 5 “Learning Beyond Walls: 28 Resources for Your Students to Connect Globally,” NETS-T 3

In the article called “Learning Beyond Walls: 28 Resources for Your Students to Connect Globally,” I learned that there are many things to do for our students are teachers, parents, and members of communities. The use of technology is being discussed, but what is important about technology is that we have to make use of it. This article explains that global warming is one of the main issues talked about, but children are not aware of the magnitude of the problem. This article says that collaboration is needed in order to inform children about Global Warming and how they can help this problem.

How will technology inform children?

Most of the time children will be in the computer in websites such as Myspace, Facebook, and in their emails. Collaboration through emails and the communication media would help to make children aware of the Global Warming problems. If children get the warning from their Myspace, Facebook, and email forwarding it will be wasier for them to understand how important it is to know what it going on in the planet that they live in.

Will children actually care?

I believe mature teenagers will care knowing about Global Warming. With the collaboration of teachers, parents, and the community children will understand the importance of this issue. Eventually the children will start informing other friends across the world and through their website postings.Children will understand that collaborating with other students and friends through the network will help ameliorate this terrible issue that we have with Global Warming.

Journal 4 Computing in the Clouds NETS-T 3

“Computing in the Clouds” explains what it means to be computing in the clouds. During these last weeks I have opened many new accounts and doing different technology activities, but after I read this article everything made sense. I learned what the big deal of computing in the clouds. The best about this is that you don’t have to waste time in transferring data, using your computer memory, and that it’s all free! “Computing in the Clouds” warns the reader that there are many changes in technology, but there is a lot more to come. Johnson gave the example of him having to buy a $100 graphic calculator for his son many years ago, and now we are to the point that teachers will require parents to buy their K-12 a netbook. Ultimately, this explains what computing in the clouds means. The best of this is that you can go to any computer and find your information from the clouds.

In the future, will the grade as little as 2nd grade have to bring netbooks to school?
Netbooks are great for younger children and adults. The difference between netbooks and laptops is that netbooks are more convenient for children because of the size and the weight. Netbooks are small computers that weigh much less than regular laptops, but the best of them is that they are as equipped as a regular laptop. I believe that in the future netbooks or other new computers will be required by the teachers. Technology is racing and it’s going really fast, so fast that it’s becoming harder to keep up with it.

How long will it take for all these free accounts in the clouds to charge?
I think that the accounts that are currently free will have a cost in the future. The reason that it’s currently free is because it’s given a chance for users to experience computing in the clouds. Once these accounts and websites become more popular they will have a cost. I don’t think any time soon, but they will because many people are beginning to make Google and Delicious many of their main websites. Google offers free email account, and even free word office supplies when people pay over $50 in retail stores. Bottom line, I do believe that in the future there will eventually a cost for these free services.
