Journal 10 “I Can See Me” Timothy J. Frey NETS-T 1 & 2 & 3

The “I Can See Me” principle is that children can actually see themselves and realize what they are doing right or wrong. The main idea of this principle is for students to reflect on their work and improve what they do in their mistakes.  In “I Can See Me: Webcams in the Classroom,” suggests that by using webcams, students can watch themselves so that they can see what they do wrong. Then the video is taken to be reflected between the teacher and the student so that they teacher can point out issues that the student didn’t see. Then the student is sent to reflect and watch the same video again, but this time also considering the issues pointed out by the teacher. This method has proven to improve reading skills and posture skills as well. When high school students find themselves having to do a speech in front of people, they are intimidated because they don’t know how they look, that is why this is a great method again.

Does this method change high school student’s perspective of speech as a high school student?

Ultimately, the “I can see me” method does change High School Student’s perspective because they are less intimidated of getting in front of people and show what they have to present. The issue is that students find themselves freighted by the fact of talking in front of people, but with the webcam they have the opportunity to see themselves and see what the audience would see in a presentation. They also have the chance to improve what they don’t like about their speech skills. But most importantly children have the opportunity to do it individually or with only a teacher, then they can do the real thing, meaning in front of other students. Practice another very important thing to do in speeches.  Frey reflects on that webcam usage in class does improve their student’s opinion and skills of speech.

What else is there to Webcam and “I can see me” principle?

In addition to the fact that has the chance to improve what they don’t like about their speech skills, they also have the opportunity to share and incorporate this video in different places. The purpose of sharing their video and the information is for other institutions to use the method and realize that it’s a great way to encourage their students to use the digital tools that are available to them. Communicating this great tool also enables other students and peers know a way for them to improve their speech skills and a way no to be freighted when it come to performing speech. If I can sum this article I should say that this principle can “ enhance our instruction and add a new effective technique for teachers. The ability to easily capture, store, and share digital video will lead to many exciting educational opportunities for our students and teachers.”
